10/20/12this is how i sleep
the quiet, the dark, and me.

windy echoes of Caribbean beaches
bouncing off the skyscrapers

but when it's black, like solitude
shadows and streetlights
dancing on your walls

you're left to your own devices
the uncomfortable thrum of blood
squeezing through your temples

the lamp, fireplace, lone Virgin Mary candle
flicker and sigh out in your brain
unconscious dusky waves, lapping and
caressing starry eyes to the depths

nestle in your angel wings
cryptic within numinous whispers
the breezes of my thoughts are disturbing
even to my scared, scared self

this is how I sleep
the quiet, the dark, and me.

6/29/12gazes cast downward
fingers restless and hidden
lips pressed into a teaming line
their eyes
they hunger
but would they say please
or neglect manners completely?
the space between is generous
but their aura is suffocating
like sharks smelling blood in water
escape their razor teeth and beady eyes?
gallop, gallop, frightened filly
leap, leap, small fawn
run, run, young tigress
sometimes you must flee the hunters.

10/16/12maple saplings
fiery autumn
matchsticks unlit
strike them
alight, aflame
sparks drift
embrace the ground

seagulls, white wings
stretched like pandiculation
mocking doves
hoping to find
water, home, the sea
salty brine spray
it can't be far away

the horizon is
full of mystery
sparkling mountains;
diamonds, mica,
shattered shards of mirrors.
glittering back in
morse code
smiling like seawater.

burn my forest,
into charred black.
through my limbs
heavy in the river
smoky haze sky
stinging lungs
blazing veins
withering skin

the self-inflicted
bruises under my eyes
the lips cannot smile
they tell the story
with va

10/14/12ghosts are in my head
whispering disquiet thoughts
transparent, silvery, slithering free
of container and lid
if my brain is Pandora's box--
where is the hope??

child of a lotus
close yourself at night
sleep below dancing stars
ceremonial constellation sky
trace yourself into the horizon
remember December??

I am a haunted house
monsters dwelling in my closets
check feverishly under the bed
watch the dark with paralyzing fear
skeleton branches clawing at the window
hide under your blanket

with every breath of my being
hear the church bells toll
every ounce of my might

I miss you.

10/8/12sun sent from
hades, a letter
lights up the
mountains, crowned with
snow and trees

echoes of airplanes
swim through the
clouds
leaves freefall from
skeleton branches

yellow butterflies blend
with honey petals
last of summer

gravestones are the
only permanent thing

so bury me
in flaky ash
drown me in
the endless sea
soar through the
heavens, cry as
you fall away

just
another
dead
leaf.
